Welcome to your Freshman Year and the 2016-17 School Year.

Welcome to Mr. Odom's class blog.

There are 3 rules in my class:

1. Come to class on time, and prepared.  If the bell rings, and you are not in class, you are late.  If you are late without a written excuse from a teacher or other school personnel, you are tardy.  "Prepared" means having something to write with (pen or pencil) and something to write on (paper).  "Prepared" also means having any assignments which may be due ready to turn in at the start of class. No excuses. "Prepared" also means being able to intelligently discuss any outside reading assignments given previously.

Take Care of Your Personal Business BEFORE You Come to Class.

2. Class time is not to be wasted.  You are not in here to clown, chill, relax, chillax, play around, joke around or hang out.  The classroom is neither the time nor place for Happy Fun Time Social Hour, Nap time, Dance contests, Comedy shows, Pay-Per-View wrestling events, paper football or trash basketball playoffs or "American Idol" tryouts.  The classroom is not a cafe', buffet or picnic area, so don't bring in food or drinks.

3. Disrespect will not be tolerated.  Keep your hands, feet, other body parts, personal possessions, bodily fluids and gases to yourself.  If you need to step out into the hallway to take care of personal issues like that, just raise your hand and ask for permission to step outside.  Keep your personal opinions as they relate to your own (and other people's) tastes in clothing, hairstyles, food, perfumes, cologne, sports teams, boyfriends or girlfriends, music, TV shows, movies or video games to yourself.  If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.  Furthermore, your language is to be free of any words or phrases that may serve to insult, put down or marginalize another person or group of people based on their race, gender, religion (or lack thereof), nationality or national origin, economic status or personal quirks and orientations.  You are to refrain from using language that makes fun or light of someone else's physical, mental, social, emotional or academic level of ability.

Blog rules:

Feel free to comment, ask questions or make observations.  Be advised: All comments are monitored for content and relevance.  Any comments that are pointless, attention-seeking, spammy, trolling or that violate any of the above rules will be deleted.  Any comments that constitute a violation of school rules or district policy will be dealt with by the administration.  Any comments that are illegal will be dealt with by the appropriate authorities.

A Note on In-class Discussions and Debates

Lively and intelligent discussions and debates are welcomed. However, I have three rules:

1. You are not allowed to make stuff up.

2. You are not allowed to threaten, insult people or throw a temper tantrum if you get outwitted.

3. Ignoring what someone else says or drowning them out with loudness, chanting, repetition or by plugging your ears and saying "LALALALALALALA, I can't hear you," doesn't make them wrong, or you right. It can't make a bad argument good and it can't make a fiction into a fact.  So don't do it.
